Description
The Domaine de Rieussec, once owned by the Carmelite monks of Langon, was sold during the French Revolution to Mr. Marheilhac. In 1855, it was classified as a Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac under the ownership of Mr Mayne. Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired Château Rieussec in 1984, improving the grape selection and winemaking techniques.
Today, the "R" in Rieussec represents the exceptional dry white wine produced by this prestigious Sauternes estate. A history rich in changes of ownership and the quest for excellence.
Tasting
Appearance: a beautiful, bright and brilliant colour. Its hue reflects the freshness of the 2021 vintage, offering an attractive first visual impression.
Nose: expressive and complex, revealing all its freshness. From the first moment, exotic notes reminiscent of passion fruit can be perceived, followed by delicately aniseed floral aromas reminiscent of fennel and tarragon. The overall bouquet highlights the minerality and tension to come, promising a unique taste experience.
Palate: a round and full attack, accompanied by subtle notes of fresh butter. Freshly cut wood flavours follow, contributing to the tension and purity of this wine. The minerality is felt throughout the tasting. The finish is both taut and persistent, underlined by a pleasant bitterness that adds relief to the whole.
Food and wine pairing: Its freshness and minerality make it an ideal choice to accompany seafood, such as oysters, mussels or prawns. The subtle notes of fresh butter can also be paired with grilled fish or shellfish.
