Description
In 2021 we brought together an independent panel of 17 national and international judges to taste and evaluate the new vintages of Vinha do Contador. The Grand Jury was unanimous in its assessment. The 2015 vintage of Vinha do Contador Branco obtained a score of 95.23 points out of 100. This resulted in premium wine status from an exceptional year and, therefore, the Grand Jury designation on the label. It is worth mentioning that the Vinha do Contador Branco 2015 harvest had already received the distinction of “Nobre”, the highest designation granted by the Wine Commission of the Dão region.
In the village of Santar, we find Paço dos Cunhas, a 17th century property (1609) and an example of nature's generosity. Paço dos Cunhas has, throughout its history, always been linked to wine production: wine has always been produced in this house, which makes it the predecessor of the wine estates in the Dão region.
In 2002, when Global Wines acquired Paço dos Cunhas, we began revitalizing and restoring old vineyards and replanting new ones. Today, Paço dos Cunhas has around 27 hectares of vines produced organically since 2007. Vinha do Contador, which includes 7 of the 27 hectares mentioned, is known as one of the most charismatic vineyards in Dão. Given the morphology of the soil and the sun exposure, this vineyard is very unique. Recognized for its potential and the singularity of the terroir, it creates unique wines that convey Dão perfectly through their elegance, freshness and aging potential, exclusive characteristics of the best wines in the region.
