Description
Herdade do Arrepiado velho is located in Sousel, about 40 km from Portalegre, in the Alto Alentejo. In 2001, it saw the rebirth of a long abandoned area. With a total area of about 100 hectares, the dam stands out between vineyards and olive groves, in a mixture of colour and tranquillity, as only the Alentejo offers.
In 2002, 33 hectares of vines were planted from scratch, in a terroir that combines, in a rare way, schistose soils of steep slopes with mild temperatures and an abundance of water, natural characteristics that indicate great potential. David Both and António Maçanita, winemakers, gathered their knowledge, innovation and dedication, selected the grape varieties and created the already nicknamed "Vinha dos 100 pontos".
From 2012, the vineyard will be in the hands of Nuno Ramalho, the current winemaker. In red, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon and in white, Antão Vaz, Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier and Verdelho.
At the head of the project is António Antunes, who is responsible for production. Together they break down barriers and prefabricated ideas, making wines off the beaten track but always with quality at the top of their ambitions.
Tasting
Eye: Concentrated dark purple color.
Nose: Warm, concentrated and intense, notes of blackberries and crushed blueberries, with a floral touch and a subtle aroma of toasted almonds from the barricade.
Palate: the attack is full-bodied, in the middle of the proof is full-bodied with firm, very mature tannins. It has good acidity and the finish extends indefinitely.
