Description
The history and evolution of a vineyard through inheritance, purchase and regrouping can end up combining several AOCs in the same estate. As Chasse-Spleen was created before the notion of AOC was born, some of the plots of land that made up the estate can be found today under different appellations.
Today, we have a dozen hectares under the AOC Haut-Médoc. The INAO recognises the notion of hierarchy of the Médoc AOCs. This means that any wine produced in Haut-Médoc and in the communal appellations (Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien, Moulis, Margaux) is, above all, a Haut-Médoc - but the reverse is not true. Only parcels produced exclusively in these delimited areas can claim the communal AOC.
In view of the success of Héritage de Chasse-Spleen, we have been led, in order to satisfy the markets and to comply with our selection policy, to remind you that certain parcels of Moulis can also legally claim to be Haut-Médoc. Thus, on average, some 20 hectares of Haut-Médoc produce Héritage de Chasse-Spleen. Originally called Ermitage de Chasse-Spleen, this wine was renamed in 2000 due to homonymity with some other vineyards. As it was born under the best of auspices and inherited all the care given to its glorious elder, this new name seemed quite appropriate.
