Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are selected manually before entering the winery. They are de-stemmed and trodden by foot in granite mills. The wine is then transferred to new 225-liter French oak barrels from several cooperages, where malolactic fermentation takes place. Afterwards, the wine ages for 24 months in these same barrels and ages in the bottle since July 2016.

Description
Maria Helena Van Zeller Guedes Harvest 2014
The year 2014 was marked by abundant rainfall, especially in the months of January, February, July and September. The summer brought its share of storms in June and July, while August was surprisingly cool. The spring and summer required a redoubled effort to protect the vineyard from mold, powdery mildew and rot, which resulted in grapes in exemplary health. If the start of the harvest promised anticipation, the rain proved to be an unexpected ally, delaying the harvest and softening the alcoholic strength of the grapes. Despite the increase in production, honesty remained unwavering, reflecting the excellence of the great years of the Douro.
Origin of grapes
This wine originates from several lots of old vines at Quinta Vale D. Maria. The grapes from these plots benefit from varied sun exposure, which contributes to a unique complexity and richness, guaranteeing a true expression of the terroir.
The harmony between the grape varieties and their diverse exposure to the sun results in a wine with complex layers of flavor and exceptional balance.
