Description
Produced by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Flechas de los Andes, "Punta de Flechas" means "the point of the arrows" and refers to the five arrows in the Rothschild family emblem symbolising the five brothers at the beginning of their dynasty. This wine is made from a selection of Malbec grapes grown in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, 1100 feet above sea level. One third of the wine was aged for 10 months in oak barrels.
Tasting
Eye: This wine is generally a deep, intense red with purple highlights. The density of the colour suggests good concentration.
Nose: The nose is expressive and typical of Argentine Malbec. There are aromas of black fruits such as blackberry, bilberry and plum, often accompanied by notes of violet. Spicy and woody touches may be added, with hints of vanilla and tobacco, resulting from ageing in oak casks.
Palate: The wine is generous and well-structured on the palate. The tannins are present but well integrated, giving it a certain roundness and a velvety texture. Black fruit flavours are omnipresent, often complemented by notes of chocolate, coffee and liquorice. The acidity is balanced, adding freshness and length to the finish.
Food and wine pairing: This Malbec goes perfectly with grilled red meat dishes, sauces, stews and mature cheeses. It can also be enjoyed with typical Argentinian dishes such as asado.
