Description
When Caesar and the Romans arrived in Geneva in 58 BC, vines were already being cultivated. In the 5th century, the importance of this vineyard is attested to by the laws of King Gondebaud, which punished the theft of grapes with death. A document dated 912, preserved in the archives of the State of Geneva, mentions the donation of vines by Countess Eldegarde to the Church.
The Bossons estate, founded in 1905 by Albert Desbaillet, Mr Leyvraz's grandfather, continues this age-old winegrowing tradition. Today, it is run by Laure Leyvraz, representing the 4th generation. The estate, which complies with Swiss environmental and sustainable development laws, grows 18 grape varieties on 30 hectares and produces AOC Genève wines, with a special blend for the Escalade at the end of the year.
