Description
Casa de Santar is historically linked to wine production. Founded at the end of the 18th century, it is one of the most iconic wineries in Dão, due to its history, size and reputation of its wines. The wines from this noble house are recognized for their tradition, authenticity and nobility, reasons that make this Dão brand so special and known for its 200 years of history. A few kilometers from Casa de Santar, we can begin to see several hectares of vineyards on the horizon, something very rare in this part of the country. Casa de Santar has the largest continuous plot of land in Dão, with 103 hectares, 83 of red varieties and 20 of white varieties. Santar's best-known plot is Vinha dos Amores, a hillside with incredible soil and sun exposure, where we grow the best Encruzado and Touriga Nacional grapes. The Vinha dos Amores got its name from time immemorial, the meeting point for all lovers in the village of Santar on their passionate encounters. Some of Portugal's most elegant wines were born here, which received high scores and awards from national and international critics. The property has been connected to the same family for 13 generations.
