Quinta dos Carvalhais is the flagship for Dão wine brands. Heir to ancient knowledge, it combines extensive experience with the most up-to-date techniques, creating wines of great elegance, with intensely delicate flavours and a unique personality.
Sogrape entered the region in 1957 by acquiring the share capital of the sociedade Vinícola do Super Dão, Viseu, and has since played a pioneering role in technically modernising this region, enhancing and replanting the regional noble varieties and restoring the Dão's reputation for quality wines. An activity that was to intensify in 1988 when the company decided to invest in acquiring Quinta dos Carvalhais, running an innovative project which revolutionized the region and became a historic milestone in Dão viticulture.
This beautiful property, located in the commune of Mangualde, near Nelas and Alcafache, has now been enhanced with new vineyards bearing the finest regional grape varieties (Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Tinta Pinheira, Encruzado, Assario, Verdelho, Bical and Cerceal) and the construction of a modern winery.
With a total area of 105 hectares, of which 50 are vineyards, Quinta dos Carvalhais produces certain unique wines exclusively from its own grapes that honour the Dão region's traditions and reputation. Such is the case for Quinta dos Carvalhais Único, Reserva, Colheita, Encruzado and other varietals, as well as Colheita Tardia and Espumante Reserva Rosé. Duque de Viseu white and red wines are produced using their own grapes and others purchased from local producers who work with the Sogrape Vinhos team to produce quality fruit.
Quinta dos Carvalhais is now a real benchmark in Portuguese winemaking, producing superior Dão wines with the supervision and passion of winemaker Beatriz Cabral de Almeida.
