Located on the left bank of the Douro, near Ervedosa, the Quinta de Ventozelo is one of the most beautiful and impressive quintas in the region. This vast amphitheatre on the river is "the gates of silence of the Douro", where time seems to pass more slowly. The peace and quiet and the close connection with Nature are the main intangible wealth of this quinta.

The land of the Quinta de Ventozelo was cultivated by the Cistercian monks, great promoters of local agriculture and founders of Port Wine, who lived in the area in the Middle Ages. The first historical reference to Ventozelo dates back to 1288, but around 1500, through the emphyteusis of the Cistercian monastery of S. Pedro das Águias, which became the property of the nobles of the Casa do Poço, in Lamego, the quinta came into being, and it is one of the largest and oldest quintas in the Douro. It is one of the largest and oldest quintas in the Douro and has had various owners over the centuries, each one transforming it until it is as we know it today.

Gran Cruz, Portugal's largest port wine exporter, which had already been processing the grapes from Quinta de Ventozelo since 2011, acquired it in 2014.Since then, Gran Cruz's strategy has been to make the most of the property's enormous potential: to work on the richness and diversity of the wines, but also to invest in olive oil, wine tourism and nature tourism.Everything is done to ensure that the work carried out favours and preserves the simplicity and authenticity of this place and its land.
