We trace her name to an old lady who lived in this house several hundred years ago. Legend has it that near the castle, when a coupling stopped, the old lady scurried down to the news where the name Trottevieille came from. The house is a lovely cartoonist surrounded by a small park and vineyard, the whole being enclosed with walls with a superb view over the Dordogne valley and the village of Saint-Emilion.
The vineyard enjoys excellent sunshine. A thin layer of reddish soil of about 30 cm covers the limestone rock and makes this vineyard a unique terroir of Saint-Emilion. Manual harvesting in crates and winemaking are always done thoroughly. A very careful breeding of new French oak barrels and regular soutirages ensure the wine a perfect preservation for very long years.
Trottevieille wine is known for its elegance, roundness and length. Its fruit when it is young, like its balance and its fullness after several years of aging, makes it one of the most sought after wines of the vines of Cabernet Franc dating from before the pylloxera.
Vinified separately, but assembled mostly in the Grand Vin, they keep every year: 135 bottles of these very old vines.
