Duruji Valley

Established in 1533, the estate's vineyards grow along the Duruji River, from which it takes its name, and on the sides of the valley through which the water stream flows. The winery is located in the heart of Georgia's most renowned wine region, Kakhetia (70% of national production).

The terroir is mainly black shale, which gives the wine a lower acidity, bitterness and softer tannins. A continental climate is found here, in an environment surrounded by the altitude of the Caucasus Mountains. The estate produces a variety of quality wines made from qvevris from some of the appellations found in the country. Finally, it is important to note that some of the wines produced at the estate are matured in Caucasian oak barrels, which gives more discreet woody notes than French oak.

The wines produced at Duruji Valley are organic. No pesticides or herbicides are used in the maintenance of the vineyards and the use of sulphur or other additives has been reduced. In addition, the vines are treated and harvested by hand. Two harvests are traditionally carried out: the first to remove all that is not good (green harvest) and the second to harvest the grapes ready for vinification.
