The history of the Bodegas Fernando Castro goes back to 1850, when on his property in Santa Cruz de Mudela, the Castro family began to produce white and red wines from grapes of own culture which, already at the time, were elaborated and were grown using the traditional artisanal methods of the region.
But it was not until a few years later that the son, Juan Manuel Castro Corredor, initiated the commercial activity of the winery. In this sense, the construction of the railway in 1861 is an important step forward. In 1895, the wines of Bodegas Fernando Castro crossed new frontiers, starting is on the market in Madrid, thank you famous "Wine Train".
The success did not wait and exceeded expectations: in a short time, the winery began to export its wines throughout the country and experienced tremendous growth. The facilities were enlarged and the production increased.
The effort and know-how marked the character of the family, transforming Bodegas Fernando Castro into one of the most important references of the Denomination of Origin Valdepeñas.
