Origins
The Donissan family of Citran reigned over this former Medocan seigneury from the 13th century until 1832, when the last heiress was forced to hand over the estate to Mr Clauzel. This ambitious businessman then draws the current contours of the property and propels it to the front of the Bordeaux scene.
The resurrection
The Miailhe family bought the property in 1945 and undertook the restoration of the premises until 1987. Then, a Japanese group Acquires the domain and begins again a series of major works. It is the resurrection of a great vintage of the Médoc!
The age of reason
It was not until 1996 that the Merlaut family, already very involved in the viticultural life of Bordeaux, took the reins of Citran. The owners are now working to develop the estate while ensuring respect for its history and free breathing. The castle has become a heritage monument since 2012.
