Founded by the monks of the Abbey of Vertheuil during the Romanesque period to serve the parish of Saint-Didier de Cantenac, the Prieuré de Cantenac produces wines renowned from its origin. In the thirteenth century, in the time of the Pope Clément V of Bordeaux, the vineyards of the Church proliferate in abundance, however their wines are not yet well identified.
In the fifteenth century, it is done and the first mentions of wines from of the vintage of the Priory of Cantenac, the Canons de Vertheuil, appear from 1444.
The castle Prieuré-Lichine has linked its destiny for half a century to that of the Lichine family.
Today, property of the Ballande Group, the castle continues its history, while taking a new impetus. Resolutely turned towards the future the property becomes the creed and the challenge of a whole team.
